Swiss to Diss Paper Invoices

The Swiss Federal Council recently decreed that as of January 1, 2016, suppliers will be required to submit electronic invoices to the government if the value exceeds 5,000 Swiss Francs.
All sectors of the Swiss government have been equipped to process e-invoices since 2012. To date, however, only 14 percent of invoices the Swiss government receives are electronic, and officials want to see that number increase. The majority of the approximately 700,000 invoices currently submitted to the Swiss government annually are filed in paper form. They then must be scanned and digitized.
