Honoring Charles Dickens

Cafe Book Bean

Today February 7th in 1812 the great Charles Dickens was born. Dickens wrote countless classics that everyone knows; A Christmas Carol, A Tale of Two Cities, Great Expectations, and the list goes on. He is the author and creator of many famous and timeless characters; Scrooge, Tiny Tim, Oliver Twist, etc. His literature has reached far and wide, beyond what I think he ever could have imagined; T.V. series, movies, sequels, adaptations galore! He has an iconic style and ambiance to his work that is haunting and beautiful.

Here are a few quotes that I love, may they inspire you:

Travel Tip: Keep a travel journey

Wanderlust: Becoming a Traveler

For the last five years, I have been keeping a travel journey. The reasons for this are many, however, it’s mainly because I wish to remember the details and my observations made when abroad. Furthermore, I want to remember the people and their stories. To me, a travel journey represents the perfect way to capture all the significant memories from travels. When having a travel journey, you can namely always take it out and explore again what you’ve already explored: Remember where you’re perspectives comes from and reflect on it.

BENT ON LOVE

Dear (me),
I hope that you had a safe trip home. I am very glad that you came all the way over my way to meet me.
I have been swimming in thoughts all day, I was feeling strange this morning and perhaps I seemed out of sorts.
There is no easy way for me to say this, and I am truly sorry that I will hurt your feelings, however I must be honest and true to myself. I felt as though meeting you was a good experience, I enjoyed your company and it was really nice to spend the night with you, but the thing is, I didn’t feel the spark that I was hoping for, I’m not sure why or what it is but I must trust my instincts and believe that I will make the right decisions. I feel strongly that we are not destined to continue…

Winter Succumbs

Poet Rummager

Frozen nights with our bodies enwrapped.

The frost outside scratches; scarring the glass.

In our bedroom, two sparks ignite one flame.

The ice gazes in at the fire we’ve created.

It crackles our window pane.

The inferno burns on licking and combusting.

Icicles start to drip from the heat we’re emanating.

The scorching temperature from within so hot, it’s sensed

by the snow outside as it succumbs, and winter begins to evanesce.
