Artist Statement:

As a kid living in South Carolina I would go to the drag strip with my family to watch my uncle race. Once I got older and slowly stopped going, I started to remember the environment and the people as a somewhat surreal experience. Starting in the unbearable midday heat and going into the slightly more bearable late night, a day at the track was always an interesting one. The close-knit drag racing community is very diverse; the drivers’ day jobs range from successful chefs to car shop owners, all coming together to form a unique drag racing sub culture. The images are my…

The April Blogging from A to Z Challenge – THEME reveal

Gulara Vincent, PhD

atoz-theme-reveal-2016 v2.jpgI’m joining the April Blogging from A to Z Challenge this year again. I loved participating last year. It helped me to grow as a person and learn how to blog properly. Not just show up once a fortnight shaking like a leaf and wondering whether I’d ever be able to write another post. I had committed to showing up for 26 days and explored the theme of Authenticity. It did me the world of good.

This year, I’ve got a different theme. It’s a…. Drum roll, please!

Love letters.

Why love letters? For several reasons:

  1. I want more love in my life. Who doesn’t? For most of my life I’ve made a mistake: I’ve been waiting for love to come from others. Well, it’s time to shake things up a bit. If I want more love in my life, I ought to express it more too. What we put our…

Fed Futzes, Fuses Financial Fracas

Barataria - The work of Erik Hare

Janet Yellen – is there anything she can’t do?

In a speech to the Economic Club of New York the most powerful person in the world, elections be damned, called back the need for continuing “ramp up” in the Fed Funds Rate. The stock market rallied as the happy days of last year returned and everyone had reason to believe that free money was on the horizon.

Funny, they don’t cheer like that for Bernie Sanders.

What is going on? Are we not going to raise rates this year after all? Has Yellen started channeling her inner Greenspan by saying as little as possible in the maximum number of words?

No, this is what we have to expect. It’s really all about China, which is to say all about currency conversion, and the much-hyped “dual mandate” of the Fed that’s really a much more complex triple mandate or more. And…

Talking with the Author of The Story Behind The Story series

You may remember Dr. Gulara Vincent from featuring my story about MiddleMe in her The Story Behind The Story series, as well as her fantastic guest post about Work After Maternity Leave. She has been such an inspiration to me and I really admire her because as a mother, writer, and university law lecturer, she is a strong positive woman who wears many hats and is a role model to many young people. I am honored to have her here as a special guest for an interview.

Welcome back again to MiddleMe, Dr. Gulara. You’re certainly no stranger to us here.
So please, share with the readers here, who is Dr. Gulara?

Thank you for having me back! I loved the warm welcome your readers gave me during my past two experiences. As to who I am, I struggle to answer this question. There are many obvious ‘labels’, of…

Three Quotes

“Each of us, helplessly and forever, contains the other — male in female, female in male, white in black, and black in white. We are part of each other. Many of my countrymen appear to find this fact exceedingly inconvenient and even unfair, and so, very often do I. But none of us can do anything about it.” (James Baldwin)

“You can only protest effectively when you love the person whose ideas you are protesting against as much as you love yourself.” (Baba Ram Dass)

“Who knows, the world might wake up and burst into a beautiful flower.” (Jack Kerouac)
