My Diary: There Is A Flame In My Head That Will Never Go Out

Gerald's Rather Strange Diary

I woke up as many times as a cartoon character in the night.‭ ‬The wind was plaiting itself into the hair of an Anglo-Saxon princess and the usually whispering trees were shouting obscenities‭ ‬-‭ ‬I went back to bed leaving a silhouette of concern in the window light.‭ ‬When I finally got up in my sedimentary rock suit I found the multifarious entities that live in the garden had remained safe.‭ ‬As the metamorphic sky brightened I made a promise to the hidden people to meet them inside my own head‭ ‬-‭ ‬the film crew were already prepared.‭ ‬I looked at the spaces they had once occupied and wondered if time could be measured with elastic bands.‭ ‬I looked up from this thought and saw a man walk down the road with several belts round his waist‭; ‬none of which appeared to be holding up his trousers.

The Bone Wall: 2 Blogger Reviews

Myths of the Mirror

the-bone-wall-ebook The Bone Wall – Amazon Universal Link

Kevin Cooper from KC Books & Music recently graced one of my books with a glowing review. Of course, I did a happy dance around my house, and the dogs barked their heads off at the excitement. “No, we’re not going for a car ride,” I shouted. “I got a super review.”

There’s no greater gift to an author than when someone “gets” your book and tells the world about it. Kevin is a great friend of indie authors, a reputable reviewer, cover designer, and accomplished author and musician in his own right. I encourage writers and readers to browse his site. Without further ado:

Kevin’s Review: The Bone Wall

THREE DAY QUOTE CHALLENGE – DAY 1 FRIENDSHIP

Haddon Musings

NANCY AND BERNADETTE

I read the following poem the other day on Beth Ann Chile’s blog (It’s Just Life) and thought immediately of my friend Nancy who always makes time for everyone of her friends.

When a friend calls to me from the road
And slows his horse to a meaning walk,
I don’t stand still and look around
On all the hills I haven’t hoed,
And shout from where I am, What is it?
No, not as there is a time to talk.
I thrust my hoe in the mellow ground,
Blade-end up and five feet tall,
And plod: I go up to the stone wall
For a friendly visit.
Robert Frost

Thank you Joan at https://familyparentingandbeyond.wordpress.com for inviting me to participate in this three day challenge and thank you for stopping by and reading.

Keeping my feet on the ground.

Matthew Midgley Illustration

PlateI’ve been experimenting with little ‘incidental’ images to add to blog posts; part of a commission for a friend who has a blog about teaching  – Mr Hill’s Musings.

It’s been an interesting commission, forcing me to learn to use some basic functions of Adobe Illustrator. I’ve always said that computers and technology are a bit like a foreign language – we only tend to learn what we need to ‘get by’.

I know a lot of illustrators enjoy using technology to tidy things up and make clean lines, perhaps even producing a whole project using technology, but I have to admit I like to see that contact with the paper – those wobbly lines, variations in line width and colouring. It just seems so much more authentic to me.

Earlier in the year I had to illustrate a cartoon picture of a couple of pirates having a bit of…
