Coffee Shop

Kevin Brown Poetry

In her best dress,

She waits –

Clock watching,

As each quarter hour

Ticks by, a reminder,

She thinks -

Of the fifteen times

This has happened before.

Her hope comes undone,

Like the ringlets in her hair,

Falling from their designated place.

As I watch -

Her dark eyes melts,

Forming a single tear,

That runs down her face,

From her chin,

And drops to the ground.

As she wipes the residue,

Of this solitary drop,

A fine rain falls,

And she thinks to herself,

He’ll never know she cried.

AND THE NEEDY SHALL HAVE HOPE, Thoughts on Day Two

Jamie Dedes' THE POET BY DAY Webzine

"And the needy shall have hope ..." Job 5:16 “And the needy shall have hope …” Job 5:16

GATHERING

I am open and I am willing
To be hopeless would seem so strange
It dishonors those who go before us
So lift me up to the light of change

There is hurting in my family
There is sorrow in my town
There is panic in the nation
There is wailing the whole world round

May the children see more clearly
May the elders be more wise
May the winds of change caress us
Even though it burns our eyes

Where Do We Go From Here?

Barataria - The work of Erik Hare

What went wrong?

Trump’s victory will continue to create an uproar all around the world. Democrats in the US can be expected to be particularly vocal. After all, for the second time in 16 years our candidate won the popular vote but failed to break the Electoral College.

What can be done about this? A lot. But since we’re Democrats it starts with a lot of internal reflection. That may not feel very good this year, but it’s traditional and wise.

I will start with the obvious: Sanders people, you were right.

A Reflection on Star Trek @ 50 And Our Current Reality #startrek50

The Tony Burgess Blog

Today is the 50th Anniversary of Star Trek. It’s 5 year mission which turned to 3 years on TV but extended into syndication and spin off shows and movies is an American icon that tells the story of adventure, science, hope, friendship and bravery. This show informs us of what is possible and how people from different races, genders and planetary homelands can survive and work together. It is about a future where people are just people and there is a spirit of inclusion. America can be that place if it truly wants to be or it can be tribal, divisive and full of hate. I think 50 years ago Gene Roddenberry got it right but we today have it wrong. Instead of building walls we should build starships and being a global community. I think America has a long way to go before we can live long and prosper.
