While advancing, the 11th Airborne encountered heavy barrages from machine guns, mortars, artillery and grenades streaming from tunnels and caves above the highway.  After the enemy was eradicated, the command post dug in on the side of the road.  In the middle of the night, they were attacked.  Headquarters Company used flame throwers and rifle fire to fend them off.

My father, Smitty, would wrinkle his nose at the mere sight of a flame thrower on TV.  He said, “Once you smell burning flesh, it stays with you.  There’s nothing worse.  Every time I see one of those things flare up, even in a movie, I can smell the fuel and flesh all over again.”

Easy Monday

No Facilities

Maddie’s park on Saturday morning. The snow is gone now.

So far, 2017 weather has been cold, colder, colder-still, warm, cold, warmer. This weekend was warm enough to change the yard from snow to mud and for Maddie to be able to sit without her vest on. So, that’s what we did. We also went for the first walk of 2018. And we, well I spent a few hours under a sink.

So, it’s your choice. Pictures of winter scenes, Maddie, MiMi and a rare picture of MuMu, or a story about connecting the pieces parts of a drain.

Go ahead.

Think about it.

Imagine … Better?

Barataria - The work of Erik Hare

One year into the Trump administration, and we have a lot to be thankful for. Yes, it’s true, it’s always good to warm up the crowd by opening with a joke. But seriously folks, is it possible to even look back and imagine a normal presidency at this point?

Everything has forever changed in the United States as a result of Trump, or more to the point everything is going to have to change. This should sound like good news to a nation that never looks back but it means there will be a lot of work ahead undoing the damage when the time comes. As we wait for that opportunity, this might be a good time to imagine how things can or should be different.

Let’s imagine a happy place for a moment with a functioning government and a universe of possibilities …
